EKATERINA VASILEVA
BIOGRAPHY
Ekaterina Vasileva was born in 1988. Opera director graduated from the Music Theatre Directing Department of RATI-GITIS (Prof. Nemchinskaya’s class) in 2010.
Her graduation work was Frid’s mono opera "The Diary of Anna Frank" staged at the Moscow International Performing Arts Centre in 2010. One year on, this production became a part of the repertory of the Moscow Boris Pokrovsky Chamber Music Theatre. In 2013 Ekaterina Vasileva was nominated for the “Golden Mask” first time at the age of 24 (“The Diary of Anna Frank” (opera/best opera director). At the same time the Boris Pokrovsky Theatre premiered Efrem Podgaits’ opera "The Angel and the Psychotherapist", directed by Vasileva as part of the Open Stage project.
Also in 2010, Ekaterina Vasileva was the director of the 2nd Paramusic Festival for Challenged Children, which was organized at the Expocentre involving the "President Orchestra" with the support of the Moscow Government.
She is the winner of 5th Moscow Festival “Open Stage” (2011/2012 opera “Angel and Psychotherapist” E.Podgaits), the winner of Theatre Award "SCENE - 2015" for the best opera directing and nominated for the National Theatre Award "Golden Mask"-2016 (opera/best opera director “Maid of Orleans” by P.Tchaikovsky.)
In 2012 Ekaterina was voted "Person of the Year" according to the newspaper "Music Review" and in 2017 her project “CoOPERAtion” laboratory for young composers and playwrights was recognized as the best theatre project of a year also by “Music Review”
In 2018 she joined a jury of the “Golden Mask” National Theatre Award and was awarded a government grant as a young opera director.
During last fifteen years she has staged more than 40 opera productions at major theatres and opera houses of Russia: Moscow Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Music Theatre, The Kolobov "Novaya Opera" Theatre of Moscow, Moscow Chamber Opera Theatre named after B.Pokrovsky, Novosibirsk State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre, Moscow Theatre of Nations, Astrakhan State Theatre of Opera and Ballet, Chelyabinsk State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre named after M.I.Glinka and the others.
Experience of productions abroad: “Don Giovanni” by W.A.Mozart (Nationaltheater Mannheim, Germany), “Archipel Gulag” by M.Khorkova (Theater Am Gleis, Switzerland), "Cavaleria Rusticana" by P.Mascagni (Zangstudio Haarlem, Netherlands).
2014 - 2018 is the chief Director of the Chelyabinsk State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre.
Since 2017 is artistic director of laboratory of young composers and playwrights "CoOPERAtion"
